Safe Homemade Hand Sanitizer Recipe
I decided to post my homemade hand sanitizer recipe for those who of you have been shopping and find the shelves empty of your normal hand sanitizer, this may work for you. It is very easy to make and the essential oils can be found at the better grocery stores, health food stores and, of course online.
Homemade Hand Sanitizer
-fills 2 regular-sized mustard squeeze bottles
This formula smells very nice without being all “femmie”. Even teenage boys like the scent as well as teen girls.
1 cup aloe vera gel
6 tbsp witch hazel
10 drops vitamin E oil
20 drops grapefruit seed essential oil
5 drops neem* or tea tree essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
5 drops orange essential oil
3 to 9 drops clove essential oil (I use 9, loving clove)
Optional:
2 tbsp colloidal silver, vodka or rubbing alcohol
* I prefer neem. Not only is it the perfect substitute for tea tree, it does not smell as bad and is very good for the skin. Other substitutes suggested are geranium or lavender.
Mix all ingredients together in a squeeze bottle. An old mustard bottle, clean of course, works very well. Do not leave in the car if the temps are below freezing. It will freeze solid. I have had bottles over 1 year old that were as good as the day I made the hand sanitizer. It did not get icky or mold. Cool, yes?
Shake the bottle before each use after making sure someone did not leave the top loose after using it. ;D You only need a little dab. Apply as often as needed. It will not leave your hands greasy, sticky or stinky. This formula does NOT dry out your hands, even if you add the optional rubbing alcohol.
My husband rubs his in and also rubs some on the steering wheel in case any “cooties” were transferred onto it when he gets into the car.
Note: Again, it WILL freeze if left in the car when the temp goes way below freezing. ;D You can fill one squeeze bottle and keep the remainder of the recipe in the refrigerator as a refill.

Something a lot of us have found is that taking advantage of the time home with your family is a great thing. It is good for the family as a whole. While shopping, smile and find a way to get some laughter going. You will be amazed how contagious a smile and laughter is, besides making the more unpleasant things, like waiting in long lines, put you more into a clearer prospective. You, and those around you, will feel much better. It sounds silly, but it works.
I must ask- WHAT are people doing with all of that toilet paper? Early shopping to dress their children as mummies for Halloween? Tissue art? Toilet paper lasagna? I mean, seriously! With all of the fear-porn, yes, negative emotions, and especially fear, hate, anxiety and similar emotions will lower your immunity to illnesses. DO read my disclaimer above.
I am not saying this is a “cure” or making any health claims that will get the FDA and other agencies all psycho. This has worked for us for many years is all I am saying. I am NOT saying to not take a virus seriously, especially if one has immune problems. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Precautions are a good thing.
Loves and hugs!
